NOTE: Play this game to enhance the concept of “Stop & Pause” in M2L SEAL Lessons Part 2, Lesson 3.
Get ready: Choose two movement activities for this game from the M2L fitness cube or card deck. You will need to choose one movement activity for students to perform during the high-energy phase of the game during “green light,” (e.g., jumping jacks or marching in place). You will also need to choose one yoga/dynamic stretch pose for students to hold during “red light” (e.g., tree or triangle pose).
Instruct students on how to perform each movement or pose/stretch before you start the game. Make sure chairs are pushed in and that students have enough space between each other.
Break students into two even teams.
Get started: When the teacher says, “Green light,” the students will begin their previously chosen high-energy movement activity. When the teacher says, “Red light,” the students will hold a yoga/stretch pose (e.g., tree or triangle pose). The team that transitions the quickest to the “red light” yoga/stretch pose AND holds it the longest, will earn one point. The team that has the most players frozen in the yoga/stretch pose position the fastest and can hold it the longest, gets a point. Continue playing until one team reaches 5 or 10 points.
